But the best place to farm them is by fighting Defender Z enemies, both in the Zanarkand Ruins and in the Omega Ruins. What makes Defender Z your best bet despite the low (12% chance) drop rate is that Defender Z is a common encounter in both locations – and it’s often surrounded by other fiends that have drops that are just as good. If you’re already in the endgame and value your gil more than your time then you can bribe Demonoliths in the Omega Ruins with a million gil for x40 spheres.
Lv. 3 Key Sphere Uses
These are used for basically one thing: unlocking level three locks on the Sphere Grid. There are a total of 18 level three locks on the grid in FFX. And these locks usually gate key spells and abilities, or block off passage from one character’s section of the grid to another. Rikku can also use these spheres in many of her mixes, with some of the best being: Trio of 9999 (Winning Formula + Lv. 3 Key Sphere): All current allies deal 9999 damage with every attack until the end of battle. Final Elixir (Al Bhed Potion + Lv. 3 Key Sphere): Restores the party to full HP and MP, as well as fully revives defeated members and cures all negative statuses. Chaos Grenade (Candle of Life + Lv. 3 Key Sphere): Deals a large amount of damage and inflicts Sleep, Silence and Blind to all enemies.
Are These Worth Farming?
Yes, in both locations. When you first arrive at the Zanarkand Ruins, it’s super helpful to take some time to get at least a few (and this will help bolster your overall strength, too). And it’s worth farming them in the Omega Ruins as well, in preparation for both the final part of the game, as well as for all the side content.
