A ghost image of the cardholder is added in the lower right corner of the card, which is the cardholder’s portrait. A multi-coloured background has been introduced. The embedded image can only be seen by placing the card towards a light source, indicating that the card is original.

Card Back

1D barcode is printed on the back side of the license card, which consists of the driver’s license number and identification data in the form of a magnetic stripe. 2D barcode is present along the bottom. 

Healthcare directives and totally and permanently disabled indicators are also printed now on the back of the license.

Replacement of License

If your card is not expiring, then you do not need to replace your current driving license, or you can do so if a change of address or name is required. These cards can be used until they get expired. The new cards will get issued at the exact cost as before.

REAL ID-compliant cards will have new designs. The residents of Minnesota can have REAL-ID cards after 2018, but this can continue till May 2023. After that one of them will be choosen by the card holders.
